Patriot Bank is the culmination of a great dream and tremendous entrepreneurial effort. During 2004 a group of very seasoned Houston Bankers lead by our Chairman, Don Ellis realized that the ongoing bank mergers in Texas had created significant opportunity. Large banks inevitably became control centric and customer unfriendly. Micro banks lacked product diversity, significant lending limits, and financial strength. The Patriot Bank dream was to create customer value and financial freedom by offering the best of both worlds. A dream focused on creating a new bank that would be totally customer focused, provide extraordinary service, and offer world class product diversity all while providing both the financial strength and 21st century sophistication that would truly add value to all customer relationships.

On January 20, 2005 that dream became a reality when a very committed group of investors raised $23 million in new capital and acquired The First State Bank of Honey Grove, Texas (chartered in 1883 and holder of the 5th oldest bank charter in Texas). The Patriot Bank team acquired the First State Bank in order to acquire a bank charter and subsequently moved the corporate main office to Houston. Patriot Bank not only produced the 3rd largest new bank capitalization in Texas history, but it is also heir to a 122 year operating history with a proud record of stability and accomplishment.
